The Mall Blackburn has made its first donation, totalling more than £500, to Age UK Blackburn with Darwen as part of their 2023 charity partnership.
Elaine Jennings, Head of Business Development at Age UK Blackburn with Darwen, was presented with a cheque for £511.85 by Loraine Jones, General Manager at The Mall Blackburn, on a recent visit to the shopping centre.
The money has been raised through The Mall’s charity wall, contactless payment points and a super-sized, interactive coin donation tumbler as well as collection buckets at all Mall events.
Age UK Blackburn with Darwen has been helping older people in the community for more than 45 years. It has over 30 dedicated staff and around 80 volunteers helping to deliver services and activities.
Elaine is delighted with the first donation. She said: “We were thrilled when we found out that we had been selected as the Charity of the Year for The Mall Blackburn and this money will make a real difference to our work in the area.
“Older people are being significantly impacted by the current cost of living crisis so this partnership could not have come at a better time.
“Every penny of the money raised will go towards assisting us in our mission in helping to keep Blackburn with Darwen’s older people independent and living well, longer.”
Loraine Jones, General Manager at The Mall Blackburn, said: “We love working with the team at Age UK Blackburn with Darwen, they are so passionate about what they do.
“Our wonderful shoppers never let us down and, despite the cost of living crisis, they have continued to give generously.
“We look forward to raising even more money for this amazing charity in the months ahead.”
